Heat Film
30cm x 25m 120 Micron Roll
This is applied to the BACK of completed Badges or Patches.
It consists of a paper backed glue.
It is best cut to the shape of the badge or patch.
(Note – the paper does separate from the glue quite easily – so work carefully.)
The Glue side is placed against the back of the badge or patch, with the Paper side uppermost.
Heat is applied to the paper side – until the glue has bonded to the back of the badge or patch.
Remove and discard the paper backing.
The badge or patch is now ready to be ironed onto the garment.
This is not always a permanent bond – so it is recommended that the badge or patch be caught in place with hand stitches or machine stitches.
It is very helpful though in keeping the badge in place during the stitching process, and to prevent it from moving.
Heat film, often referred to as heat transfer film or heat transfer vinyl (HTV), is used in embroidery and textile projects to apply designs onto various fabrics. It acts as a stabilizer or decorative element that enhances embroidered designs. Here’s how it is typically used and what it offers:
1. **Application**: The process involves cutting a design into the heat film using a cutting machine. The excess material is then “weeded” away, leaving only the desired design. This is placed onto the fabric and heat-pressed, allowing the adhesive on the film to bond permanently to the fabric.
2. **Stabilization**: In embroidery, heat film can stabilize delicate fabrics, ensuring consistent and precise stitching without shifting or puckering. It can be applied to the back of the fabric to aid in hooping and stabilizing during the embroidery process.
3. **Decorative Use**: Heat film is available in various colors, finishes, and textures, such as metallic, glitter, or matte. This versatility makes it popular for adding vibrant, detailed designs to garments without additional stitching.
4. **Durability and Care**: Designs made with heat film are generally durable and withstand repeated washing and wearing, though care instructions should be followed to maintain longevity.
Overall, heat film is a versatile tool in embroidery, allowing for creative expression and functional support on various textiles.
